Frequently asked questions
Before you buy
Do I need my own NMI account?
Yes. NMI for WooCommerce works with your existing NMI merchant account, directly with NMI or through an NMI reseller. Payments go between your customers, NMI and your bank. We never hold or move your money.
Is it a payment gateway too?
Yes. It includes a full NMI payment gateway for WooCommerce with saved cards, subscriptions, eCheck/ACH and optional 3D Secure, so your checkout takes payments through NMI and you do not need a separate gateway plugin.
Can my staff use it?
Yes. Choose which roles or people can open the dashboard. Staff can view payments, customers and subscriptions and refund within limits you set; taking payments, payment links and subscription changes are for administrators. Big charges can require a password, and every charge, refund and settings change is logged.
What happens if I do not renew?
Your checkout, subscription renewals, refunds and data keep working. Updates and support stop until you renew, and after a 14-day grace period the paid tools, such as Take payment and reports, pause too. The same applies if your site cannot reach our licence server for 30 days in a row.
Is there a refund policy?
All sales are final, so please check the features, requirements and documentation before you buy, or ask us a question first. If something is not working, contact support and we will help you get it running. You can cancel your yearly renewal at any time.
What do I need to use it?
WordPress 6.0 or newer, PHP 7.4 or newer, WooCommerce 8 or newer, and an NMI merchant account. WooCommerce Subscriptions is optional and unlocks the subscription tools.
Does it work with my NMI reseller?
Most likely. Many payment companies run on the NMI gateway under their own name. If your portal looks like NMI and you can create API security keys, it works.
Will it slow down my store?
No. The dashboard only loads for signed-in staff, and once your tokenization key is added the checkout uses NMI’s lightweight secure card fields.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. NMI for WooCommerce runs entirely on your WordPress site and talks directly to NMI and the services you connect. Your licence check sends only your site address, licence key and plugin version to us.
Using it
Can I take a payment over the phone?
Yes. Take payment charges a card through your WooCommerce NMI checkout and saves it as a normal WooCommerce order, so stock, emails and accounting stay in sync.
Do refunds work?
Yes, full or partial, from the payment’s details. Refunds go through NMI and are recorded on the WooCommerce order.
What about chargebacks?
Connect NMI’s webhook in a couple of minutes and chargebacks appear in their own tab, with an alert so you can respond in time.
Can I import my old Stripe or PayPal history?
Yes. Stripe imports with a read-only key, and Square with an access token that is used once to read and never saved. PayPal, Authorize.net, Braintree, Clover, Shopify Payments, QuickBooks Payments and others import from the CSV file you download from them.
What if NMI goes down?
Pick a backup payment method, such as Stripe, in Settings. If NMI cannot be reached, Take payment offers to finish the charge with your backup on the same order.
Licences and billing
Where is my licence key?
In your order email and any time under My account → Licences on this website.
How do I move my licence to another site?
Click “Remove from this site” in NMI for WooCommerce → Settings → Setup → Licence, or in My account → Licences here, then activate the key on the new site.
Is NMI for WooCommerce open source?
Like all WordPress plugins, NMI for WooCommerce is licensed under the GPL. Your licence key gives you updates, support and the paid tools. See the software licence page for details.
